The workshop focuses on the once very popular but nowadays almost forgotten genre of the photo novel. To explore its typical visual language and imagery, I will open my archive of photo novels, found at flea markets in Barcelona, Istanbul, Beirut and Paris. Mostly published in the 60s and 70s, this old magazines can be considered as containers preserving values, morals and role models of a past era. But are they really so outmoded as they seem to be? How do we read this material from our contemporary perspective? How do we understand certain gestures or face expressions? What new narrations can we filter out of it?
